Bridge set to offer an easy way out for folks

A NEW bridge connecting Taman Impian Putra to Pekan Bangi will be ready for use in a couple of months.

Serdang MP Datuk Yap Pian Hon said the 30m long and 18m wide bridge would connect Taman Impian Putra, Bandar Seri Putra and Bandar Bukit Mahkota to Pekan Bangi.

Helping out: Yap (left) speaking to Mary and Somasundram at the canteen of SJK (T) Bangi.

“Once the bridge is completed, motorists will be able to use it to get to Putrajaya, Kajang and Semenyih as well,” Yap said.

He said the RM5.2mil bridge over Sungai Semenyih was being built by Dasar Beringin Sdn Bhd.

It would be a four-lane bridge, Dasar Beringin general manager Angie Tan said during a recent site visit.

Taman Impian Putra is a mixed development project with 1,369 houses and is built on state land in a joint venture project between the developer and Permodalan Negri Selangor Bhd (PNSB).

“There is potential for growth in Pekan Bangi as there are about 10 housing estates in the area and there are neighbouring new townships like Bandar Seri Putra and Bandar Bukit Mahkota.

In progress: Construction work on the bridge has already begun.

“The building of the bridge will help promote growth in the area,” said Yap.

At another event, Yap donated RM10,000 from his MP’s allocation to SJK (T) Bangi for the Parent Teachers Association (PTA) fund.

Accepting the cheque was PTA chairman S. Somasundram.

“The school is the only Tamil school in Pekan Bangi and it has 180 students,” Yap said.

Several months ago, Yap presented RM50,000 from the Prime Minister’s Department to the school and the money was used to build an operations room.

Headmistress Mary Paripuranam said the school's history dates back beyond 1962, when it was located at the Bukit Tunggul Estate.

The partially aided school moved to Bangi (the site of Broome Estate) in 1962.
