FANDI Ahmad, once South East Asia's top striker, will feature for Singapore veterans in the curtain raiser match against Selangor for the Sultan of Selangor’s Cup at the Shah Alam Stadium on Aug 11.
Organising chairman Datuk Abdul Karim Munisar said they had agreed to foot the bill to fly Fandi from Jakarta to Kuala Lumpur.
“Fandi has been involved in this tournament since its inception in 2001. He too does not want to miss the event,'' said Abdul Karim.
Besides Fandi, who had scored the winning goal when Singapore edged Selangor 2-1 in the Malaysia Cup final in 1980, several other veterans will play in the match including T. Pathmanathan, R. Suriamurthi and Samad Allipitchay.
Former national skipper Datuk Soh Chin Aun will lead Selangor veteran's impressive line-up parading Santokh Singh, K. Gunalan, Dollah Salleh, Khan Hung Meng and Zainal Abidin Hassan.
The main match will be the annual clash between the Selangor selection and S-League selection. The winning team will receive the majestic challenge trophy, which Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had bought in London.
Abdul Karim Munisar said the Sultan wanted this year competition to be a meaningful one as it would coincide with the nation's 50th Merdeka celebrations.
“There will be fireworks. We will also distribute 50,000 Selangor and Jalur Gemilang flags to the spectators,'' said Abdul Karim.
Tickets, priced at RM5 each, are available at Quality Hotel (Shah Alam and Kuala Lumpur), Hard Rock Cafe (Kuala Lumpur), Planet Hollywood (Kuala Lumpur), Concorde Hotel (Shah Alam), Brisdale Hotel (Kuala Lumpur) and Perangsang Templer Golf Club.
All ticket holders are eligible to win prizes in a lucky draw offering three packages to watch an EPL match in London.
