Golf event a resounding success, thanks to friendly weather


THE opening leg of the 2007 Cross Creek Pharmaton Amateur Golf Circuit presented by Emirates teed-off resoundingly with 128 golfers taking to the fairways of Kelab Golf Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah (KGSAAS) recently. 

The participants enjoyed clear, blue skies in the afternoon game, played over the Sultan and Alam Shah nines of the 27-hole KGSAAS layout designed by five-time British Open champion Peter Thomson. 

Zaide Mohd Yunus played superbly to card a round of 77 to win the gross title, winning himself a Srixon P514 putter, and a three-day, two-night golf package to Jakarta. 

He finished a stroke ahead of runner-up Lee Siew Choy, who took home a Srixon ZTI Driver.  

Frankie Choo shot gross 79 to take third place and the accompanying prizes of a Cross Creek Stand Bag and Phiten Bracelet.

There were some really low scores in the nett category, with 18-handicapper Chong Hun Wah topping the standings with a round of seven-under 65.  

He won a Hitachi Vacuum Cleaner and a three-day, two-night golf package to Jakarta. 

Second place on nett 66 went to Izham Abdul Wahid (14), winning him a Srixon Fairway Wood. Third place and the prize of a XXIO Wedge went to Chen Qui Fatt (12) with a score of nett 67. 

In addition to earning coveted spots in the Grand Final, the top three gross and top three nett finishers also took home handsome trophies from Isomax.  

The Grand Final will be staged on August 19 at the Saujana Golf & Country Club, following the completion of 10 qualifying legs. 

Mohd Azli Abdul Aziz took home the Longest Drive prize of an Ogawa Magic Slimming Belt with a drive of 224 metres at the second hole of the Sultan Nine.  

The Nearest To Line prize of an Ogawa Arm Blood Pressure Monitor at Hole 13 of the Alam Shah Nine went to Engku Azhan with a tee shot that stopped on the line.  

At Hole 6 of the Sultan Nine, Yew Tong Ho claimed the Nearest To Pin prize of an Ogawa Hand-Held Massager with a tee shot that settled just three feet from the pin.  

Inaugurated in 2001, the Cross Creek Pharmaton Amateur Golf Circuit has enjoyed long-term support from many high-profile co-sponsors.  

Dubai-based international airline Emirates is the event’s Presenting Sponsor for the sixth consecutive year since 2002.  

The other long-time partners include Srixon, Hitachi, Grand Blue Wave Hotel, Winston Wines, Kelab Golf Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah, Isomax and ParGolf. 

Ogawa, Sunplay and Munchy’s have come on board again for the second year, while the new sponsors for 2007 are the Menara Peninsula Hotel in Jakarta, Cycle & Carriage Bintang, Bestour & Travel and Alp Kiseki Venture, the distributors of Phiten. 

Each leg and the grand final serves up a mouth-watering array of prizes, including Emirates air tickets, Srixon golf equipment, Hitachi electronic products, Ogawa health products and trophies sponsored by Isomax.  

The goody bag itself is worth more than RM350 and includes a Cross Creek backpack, Cross Creek golf shirt, Pharmaton towel, Pharmaton capsules, Srixon golf balls, Munchy’s snacks, Sunplay lotion, Isomax energy drink and Daisy Spring mineral water. 

Additionally, the gross and nett winners of each leg will each win a three-day and two-night golfing package to Jakarta.  

The Jakarta golfing escapade will be organised by Bestour Travel and will take place on a fixed date namely Oct 29 and 31. 

The winners will fly with Emirates and stay at The Menara Peninsula Hotel.  

A special package rate from Bestour will be offered for other golfers who are interested in joining the group.
