CHEERLEADING Association and Register of Malaysia (CHARM) will be organising its first cheerleading competition at Cineleisure Damansara.
It will be held on March 25 from 10am to 6pm.
“This is an event organised by the youth for the youth as we want to promote cheerleading as a sport in Malaysia,” said the organising committee chairman, Lim Cheng Choo at a press conference last Friday.
The competition will be divided into two categories - cheer dance and stunt. It will be a short competition, as each team only need to perform a small part of their cheerleading routine.
“We want to stress more on their techniques rather than creativity because the main priority in cheerleading is safety. We want them to ensure their safety when performing,'' said Lim.
“The competition is open to the public regardless of their age. We want to encourage all to take part,'' she said.
“Cheerleading is a sport requiring strength, flexibility, stamina, discipline, creativity and teamwork. We want to change the public's perspective of cheerleading as a frivolous pass time,'' said vice-chairman of the organising committee, Rachel Ng.
