NS trainees hold mock election

PLEASE vote for Parti Cahaya!

Such was the battle cry heard when 400 trainees at the National Service (NS) camp in Machang Bubok held a mock election to choose an assemblyman.

Five candidates who were chosen to represent their respective ‘parties’ in the election walked around to lobby for votes.

Poster wars are common during such campaigns in real life so it was no surprise to see that the camp hall was festooned with flags and posters of the candidates. Flyers were also distributed.

The mock election was held when Jawi assemblyman Tan Cheng Liang, who was one of the inspectors appointed by the Defence Ministry, paid the 400-odd trainees a visit.

Party Cahaya candidate Albert Aeruthayam, 18 from Batu Lanchang, Penang, said he en-joyed his stay at the camp.

“All of us are like one family. We look after each other like brothers and sisters,” he said.
