HUMBLE, friendly, dedicated, hardworking and honest were some of the adjectives MPs from various constituencies in the Federal Territory used when they shared their opinion over newly elected FT Minister Datuk Zulhasnan Rafique. Most felt that the choice made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was a good one and that they were looking forward to working with him.

Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai

“I cannot give him marks yet because it takes time for a minister to prove that he is capable of the post (given to him). I am not sure if he is the right person, although he was the Deputy FT Minister, but many deputy ministers have the tendency to say that they have no powers in making any decision. I don’t know what specialty he has.

“I hope Zulhasnan is the minister for all FT citizens regardless of their background and political affiliation. Kuala Lumpur, being under FT, aspires to be a world-class city by 2020 but many do not have the confidence to see it making it through. Can Kuala Lumpur be free from floods and dirty rivers; have sufficient green lungs and bearable traffic condition by 2020?

“Nevertheless, I ensure my co-operation with him for the good of the people.”

Bukit Bintang MP Fong Kui Lun

“I think Zulhasnan can handle the post well because he was the Deputy FT Minister and is familiar with Federal Territory issues. He is the right person to take on the post. I also find him humble and friendly.”

Wangsa Maju MP Yew Teong Look

“I think the appointment is a good move. He is a local guy, an MP in Kuala Lumpur, so he is familiar with issues in the city.

“By working with him, I find him ambitious and dynamic. Therefore, I believe he will be a good leader. I’m glad that he is appointed the FT Minister, and I will give my full support.

“I hope with support from all aspects, he can perform to our expectations.”

Ng Lip Yong, Batu MP

“He is the most suitable person for the job since he grew up and studied in Kuala Lumpur all his life. He would know what to do and having lived in the city for so long he is familiar with its problems.”

Datuk Astaman Aziz, Titiwangsa MP

“He is a good choice as he has the experience of being the FT deputy minister, so the appointment is just right and overall it’s going to be good for Kuala Lumpur.”

Datuk Dr Tan Kee Kwong, Segambut MP

“We are happy and pleased that Datuk Zulhasnan Rafique is appointed FT Minsiter. He is the most appropriate person to know about Kuala Lumpur and he is also dedicated and hard working and has many ideas about developing Kuala Lumpur. I look forward to working with him.”

Teresa Kok, Seputeh MP

“I hope that he can carry out his duties without any form of favouritism.

“As FT minister, he should be firm and conduct his duties in an impartial and professional manner.”
