DOING THEIR PART: Tey Seng (holding and showingcheque), staff and students showing the moneycollected for Pakistan’s quake victims.

Touched by the plight of the earthquake victims in Pakistan, the students of Olympia College decided to do their part by passing the hat around to collect money for the victims.

College principal Tey Seng who mooted the idea said the students decided to collect additional funds by collecting and selling old newspapers and aluminium cans

“We also put a special donation box at the college premises for the public to chip in,” he said, adding that within 10 days they managed to raise RM580.

Tey said such an event brought about teamwork among the students as those from the hotel management course came forward to help raise money by selling sandwiches while secretarial course students decorated the donation box.

The money would be handed over to Mercy Humanitarian Fund through The Star's South Asia Quake Fund, said Tey.
