I refer to Chin Mui Yoon’s story on Serendah town (Sept 9) and the origin of the Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells).
In the 60s, there was a tin mine in operation in the Serendah area. It was known as the Malayan Hydraulic Tin Mine and was operated by the Foong family from Kuala Lumpur.
As the name suggested, it did not depend on diesel engine to pump water to break up the tin-bearing soil. The mine utilised water from the Seven Wells, channelled by gravity, to break up the soil.
The damming of the river was done by British pioneer miners, the predecessors to the Malayan Hydraulic Tin Mine.
