Golfers do bit for charity

ABOUT 100 golfers from five clubs did their part for charity when they took part in Berjaya Classic Charity Golf 2005 at Bukit Tinggi Golf & Country Club (BTGC) in Bentong, Pahang, recently.

The five clubs comprised Kelab Darul Ehsan (KDE) in Kuala Lumpur, Bukit Jalil Golf & Contry Resort (BJGCR) in Kuala Lumpur, Bukit Banang & Country Club (BBCC) in Batu Pahat Johor, Staffield Country Resort (SCR) in Mantin, Negeri Sembilan and hosts BTGC.

Berjaya Land Berhad executive director Khor Poh Waa officiated the event organised exclusively for the club members.

KDE general manager Muhamad Azmir Abdul Rahim, who was also the organising chairman, said: “The charity golf event has provided a platform for golfers from clubs under the Berjaya Hotels & Resorts banner to foster better ties. The event was also in line with the government’s effort to promote a caring society.”

Sports Toto Malaysia Sdn Bhd donated RM10,000 towards the cause while the charity auction, conducted during the event, collected RM2,350.

The two beneficiaries of the charity golf drive were Pertubuhan Rumah Anak Yatim/Miskin Daerah Kuala Langat, Selangor and Persatuan Orang Yang Amat Cacat Akal Selangor/ Wilayah Persekutuan.

The funds raised were distributed equally to both organisations.

However, the Atos offered by Hyundai Sime Darby Motor Sdn Bhd for a hole-in-one, failed to find a winner.

In the team event, KDE scored 350 points and retained the title for the third consecutive year. BJCCR (337 points) and BTGCC (334 points) finished second and third respectively.

KDE's 11-handicapper Ahmad Fauzi scored 39 points to win the A Medal category. Chen Thiem Yew from BTGCC edged KDE's Lee Yong Kai on countback for second spot. Both of them were tied on 37 points.

The top three positions in the B Medal section were decided on countback when three golfers scored 36 points.

Agustiarto Baharudin (KDE) was declared the winner. Danavandhan (BTGCC) was second while Lim Jok Kian (BBGCC) had to settle for third.

Lee Sau Joo from SCR captured the Gross category with a score of 36 points ahead of BJGCR members David Su (37) and Tony Wong (37). Su ended second on countback.

Ahmad Fauzi (KDE) won “The Nearest To The Pin” prize when his shot landed five feet seven inches from the third hole.

Zoal @ Zulkiflee Zainol (KDE) claimed “The Nearest To The Line” title when his shot was three inches from the line at the fifth hole.

Tony Phuang of BJGCR drove a 223m shot at Hole 13 to win the “Longest Drive” contest.
