THE proposers of Malaysian Dayak Congress (MDC) have appealed to the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to expedite the registration of the new political party.
MDC protem chief information officer Joseph Tawi said it was not known if the application submitted to the ROS office in Kuching on May 6 last year would be approved.
It has been very frustrating. Just to find out the position of our application gets nowhere.
If the reply is negative, then we will know what to do. Please do not hold us in suspense, he said in a press statement in Kuching on Tuesday.
Tawi said that party protem chairman Nichalos Bawan and his deputy Dr Johnichal Rayong had met the newly-appointed Registrar Kaswuri Keman over the application, and pursued the matter on several occasions, but they were yet to get an answer.
He said that Kaswuri was quoted in recent press reports as saying that an application for a political party normally took over a month to approve.
While some people needed only a short time to register their parties, it appears that our application will take more than the Registrars client charter of four months, he added.
Tawi was apparently referring to the speedy approvals of Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (Parti Rakyat).
The two parties were formed shortly after the deregistration of Sarawak National Party (SNAP) and Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) and are now Barisan Nasional components.
