Pay up, errant ratepayers told

RATEPAYERS in Seberang Prai with outstanding assessment arrears better watch out.

The Seberang Prai Municipal Council (MPSP) will impose a 20% interest on the arrears if they failed to pay up by Sept 15, council president Datuk Md Aris Ariffin said.

He said their moveable property would subsequently be sealed and confiscated after seven days if the arrears were not settled by then.

He said 36,559 commer- cial and residential property owners in Seberang Perai owed the council RM35mil in assessment with some arrears going as far back as 10 years.

“Our initial target is to collect RM22mil by the end of this month while the remainder will be collected through legal means and procedures,” Md Aris said.

Other ratepayers will get their notices by mail.

Five councillors, 49 coun- cil employeees and 10 police officers took part in the campaign.

The areas they visited in-cluded Megamal, Taman Ro-bina, Bandar Prai, Taman In-derawasih, Taman Bidura and Taman Impian Ria.
