A RECENT meet-the-people session by Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Yong Dai Ying with Bandar Sri Damansara residents also incorporated a briefing of the Selangor Maju 2005 vision.

On August 27, Selangor will be bestowed developed state status by the Sultan of Selangor at the Shah Alam Stadium.

An official launch will also be held on Aug 31to coincide with Merdeka Day celebrations.

The meet-the-people session began with the National Anthem, sung by Pengerak Rakan Muda Daerah Petaling, and also featured cultural dances and martial arts demonstrations.

Several booths were also set up outside the hall, including one by FAMEMAS in support of the Malaysian squad for the Manila SEA Games later this year.

During the event, guests were shown a visual presentation of Selangor Maju 2005, followed by a speech by Selangor Economic Planning Unit chief principal director Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar who said the concept was first envisioned by Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib in 1982.

He added that Selangor had achieved 70% of the 76 indicators for developed status as drawn up by the National Productivity Centre.
