AS a 12-year-old boy, farmer Zhen Xiang Xi was among 12,000 people who were moved from Singapore to the eastern coast of Johor to grow crops for the Japanese army in the flat lands of Endau.
His family tilled the land from 1943 to 1945 and when the war ended they decided to stay put to continue farming there instead of going back to Singapore.
