PETALING JAYA: A man was injured after being shot by police when he allegedly drove recklessly and rammed into other vehicles while being pursued by a police patrol car from Persiaran Mahogani towards Sungai Buloh on Friday (Oct 9).
The suspect, believed to be in his 30s, was arrested, while a policeman was also injured in the incident.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shamsudin Mamat said police received a report on the incident at 6.42pm on Friday (Oct 9).
"The suspect drove aggressively and dangerously, ramming into other vehicles before he was apprehended by police.
"He sustained injuries after being shot by police during the incident," he said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 10).
Asst Comm Shamsudin said the policeman involved had received treatment at a hospital, while the suspect was receiving treatment at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC).
He said the case was being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties and Section 279 of the same code for rash or dangerous driving.
Investigations are also being conducted under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960, as well as Section 39B and Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
An application for a remand order against the suspect is scheduled to be made at UMMC on Saturday (Oct 10).
The incident also attracted attention on social media following the circulation of a video showing several police patrol cars on the road.
Meanwhile, Asst Comm Shamsudin advised the public against spreading inaccurate information or speculating about the incident.
"Anyone with information about the incident is urged to come forward at the nearest police station or contact the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters operations room at 03-7966 2222 to assist in investigations," he said.
