Unity Week celebration tour kicks off in Melaka

MELAKA: Melaka has been chosen as the first location for this year's Unity Week (SMP) celebration tour.

In a statement, the National Unity Ministry said that the kick-off event for SMP 2025 was officiated by its Minister, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh on Friday (April 4) night.

"SMP is a programme under the 'Kembara Perpaduan Malaysia Madani' initiative, aimed at igniting the spirit of unity and fostering knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of Malaysia's diverse customs and cultures," the statement said.

It added that Penang was selected as the venue for the national-level SMP launch, which will take place from July 16 to 20.

Meanwhile, Aaron, in the same statement, said that SMP is not merely an event but a reminder that unity is the foundation of the nation's strength.

He added that Malaysia was built on consensus, mutual respect, and fairness among all races.

"Our success in building a stable and prosperous country has resulted from cooperation and unity among all citizens, irrespective of background, culture, and religion. May the spirit of unity that we cultivate together continue to grow and bring great benefits to the nation and future generations," he said.

The Unity Week celebration in Melaka featured various interactive activities for all age groups, including a Unity Fun Walk, the Family-Raya Madani Colouring Contest, and Dondang Sayang and Keroncong competitions.

Other highlights included the Unity Traditional Games Competition, "Rumah KAMI" (ethnic house) exhibition, Cross-Cultural Performances, Unity Character Contest, Uniti Women's Neighbourhood Kerabu Contest, Rahmah Sales, and exhibitions by government departments and agencies.
