GE15: Social media influencer Cleopatra to contest Batu seat

PETALING JAYA: Social media influencer Nur Fathiah Syazwana Shaharuddin (pic) will be a candidate for the Batu Parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Nur Fathiah Syazwana - who is popularly known as Cleopatra - said that she is not concerned about competing against big names as she only cares about the people in the constituency.

"It's wonderful to see such participation among politicians, professionals and the young," she added.

Nur Fathiah said that being an independent candidate allows her the liberty and privilege to speak of what she truly believes in and being realistic about what she can achieve.

The mother of two added that should she win the seat, her immediate plan would be to immediately attend to community issues, issues affecting local traders and to improve commuter connectivity in the area.

She also said that she would focus on parking and congestion issues near the PPR flats.

"After which my next focus would be to increase economic activities," said Cleo, who is also a director for a defence and security company.

Asked why she wanted to contest in Batu, she said that she has been really interested in politics for some time and added that she would champion gender equality.

"I strive to see gender equality and there is nothing a man can do that a woman cannot. Women of today are at par with men in terms of capability and ability. I will work hard to ensure equal opportunities," she said.

In the 14th General Election, P. Prabakaran - better known as Praba - won the Batu parliamentary seat with a majority of 24,438 votes.

Additionally, activist and lawyer Siti Kasim also plans to contest in the seat.
