ALOR SETAR: Pengkalan Kundor assemblyman Datuk Phahrolrazi Mohd Zawawi (pic) has been elected the new chairman for Kedah Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) during the state party convention here on Friday (Nov 14).
He will be replacing outgoing chairman Datuk Dr Ismail Salleh who in turn will be his deputy for the 2019-2022 period.
Kubang Pasu Amanah division chief Mohd Taib Ahmad and Fauzi Tahir from the Padang Serai Amanah division were chosen as the new vice-chairman I and vice-chairman II, respectively, for the state party.
When contacted, Phahrolrazi said the new role in the state party leadership means a bigger responsibility for him in bringing the party into the next general election.
"For me, the new appointment is a challenge in ensuring Kedah Amanah retains what it had won in the last general election.
"And of course my target is to increase the membership in the state, and opening new divisions across Kedah," he said on Sunday (Nov 17).
Phahrolrazi said with the downward trend of people rejecting Pakatan Harapan as shown in several recent by-elections, the new line-up will face heavier responsibility in ensuring Amanah and Pakatan stay relevant to the people in Kedah and the country.
Phahrolrazi was the deputy chairman of Kedah Amanah prior to the convention that was held at StarCity Hotel here.
Kedah state executive councillors Asmirul Anuar Aris and Dr Salmee Said were also chosen in the new line-up.
Also present were Pokok Sena MP Datuk Mahfuz Omar and Melaka Chief Minister Adly Zahari who officiated the convention.
