THE Selayang Stadium will continue to be the home ground of the Selangor football team for now.
Newly elected Selangor Football Association (FAS) president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said the Selangor football team would continue to play their home games at the venue.
“For now, I am okay with Selayang Stadium being our home ground. I am a Selayang boy,” he said at the launch of the Red Giants new jersey by Lotto which came in three colours – red, yellow and black.
Subahan said FAS was holding talks with the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) to bring back Selangor’s home matches to the Shah Alam Stadium which was the venue for the Red Giant’s home matches for more than 20 years.
“We will move there once everything is sorted out but for now, the Selangor team will continue to play their home games at the Selayang Stadium,” he added.
With the launch of the new jersey for Selangor, Subahan hoped the players would be inspired to play with greater zest so that the team would not be far behind the top teams in the Super League.
Subahan said it would take some time before the team could improve on their performance as the team was not getting financial support from the Selangor government.
“I am confident we will able to find the right sponsors after which the Red Giants should roar again.
“I believe we will be back to where we belong in a year’s time,” said Subahan, adding that he would be looking at local young talents to compensate the lack of money to buy good players.
