FANS of The Sultan of Selangor’s Cup (TSSC) in Ampang Jaya received 1,500 complimentary passes to the highly anticipated match during a special ticket handover ceremony on March 31 at Menara MPAJ.

Staff of the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) and representatives from 23 football clubs were given 1,500 tickets by TSSC organising chairman Tan Sri Abdul Karim Munisar.

MPAJ president Abdul Hamid Abdul Hussain said he anticipated much support from Ampang Jaya folk at the match.

“This is in line with MPAJ’s efforts to instil the love of sports within the community and help to improve relationship between the council and public,” he said.

Abdul Karim said a total of 10,000 tickets will be distributed to all 12 local councils in Selangor.

“Next, we will be heading to the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) and Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) to hand over the tickets.

“We will also be having similar sessions in Singapore next week,” he said.

He added some 80,000 supporters are expected during the match on May 7.

“As last year’s match had to be cancelled at the last-minute because of the haze, supporters are even more eager to witness the game.

“The past editions have been very popular because of its carnival-like atmosphere and family-oriented fun.

“There will be performances and even a fireworks display on the night,” Abdul Karim said.

Aside from the nostalgia of both teams meeting in finals that extends back to the very first Malaya Cup in 1921, he pointed out that TSSC was now the only remaining platform to witness the two rivals in action after Singapore was dropped from the Malaysia Cup again last year.

The upcoming TSSC is the 15th edition and will be held at the Shah Alam Stadium again, kicking off with a nostalgic curtain raiser veterans match between legends of Selangor and Singapore at 8pm followed by the main match at 9pm.

Fans will also get a chance to meet their favourite Red Giants players as well as get their hands on tickets at a special session this Saturday from 3pm at SACC Mall, Shah Alam.

Tickets priced at RM10 are available at Uncle K outlets in: Paradigm Mall, SACC Mall and Cyberjaya as well as Concorde Hotel in Shah Alam and at the Shah Alam Stadium on match day.
