DAKAR, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Thirteen people were killed and around 40 others were injured in a traffic accident in central Senegal Thursday evening, local media reported.

The accident happened at around 7:00 p.m. local time on National Road No. 1, near the village of Yamong in the Kaffrine region, reported the Senegalese Press Agency, citing a security source.

The accident was caused by the overturning of a transport bus after one of its tires burst, the report quoted the source as saying.

The Senegalese government implemented several measures last year to combat traffic accidents following a series of deadly accidents.
