FORMER champions PKNS and Emkay-NPNG continued their winning streak in the Super Division of the Football Association of the Selangor (FAS) league.
PKNS, considered one of the pioneers in the FAS league, scored a convincing 4-0 win over Malaysia Airlines (MAS) in a Group B match at the PKNS Sports Complex in Kelana Jaya.
MAS, without a win in the league, were looking for a change of fortune against PKNS. Unfortunately MAS were unable to match PKNS superiority in attack and gave away four goals in the last 20 minutes of the game.
PKNS took the lead in the 69th minute when Mohd Saiful Azizan Sahar scored. In the 75th minute Mohammad Asraf Abdul Nasir made it 2-0. The third goal came two minutes later from Ibnu Hisyam Mohd Nasir while Mohammad Asraf was on target again in the 85th minute.
PKNS team co-ordinator Mohd Nor Azlan said MAS should be commended for giving them a tough time.
“We were confident of a win. But we did not expect the match to be tough. It was our players’ superior fitness which helped us in getting maximum points.
“MAS players were quite tired in the last 20 minutes and our players took advantage of the situation and scored four goals. It was a good win and we are unbeaten in the league,’’ said Mohd Nor.
PKNS are having a good run in the Super division. They are unbeaten in four matches and lead the nine-team table with 12 points. PKNS have also yet to concede any goals.
PKNS have also qualified for the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and will meet MAFC at the Kajang Stadium on Saturday.
Mohd Nor admitted that their players would be under tremendous pressure.
“But that’s part and parcel of football. They have to accept that and give their best against MAFC,’’ he added.
In another Group B match at the Panasonic Sports Complex in Shah Alam, Emkay-NPNG collected maximum points when they edged Sultan Sulaiman Club (KSS) 1-0.
Emkay-NPNG’s hero was Mohammad Shazwan Mohamed Rani, who scored the only goal of the match. Emkay-NPNG coach Michael Palani said they should have won the match by a bigger margin.
“It was a tale of missed chances as our strikers were unable to convert the opportunities that came their way. We cannot afford to be generous in future as our rivals are hot on our heels,’’ said Michael.
Emkay-NPNG are second in the table with nine points from three wins.
In Group A, Team Force, making their debut in the Super division, recorded their third straight win when they defeated Airasia 3-0 at the Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi Sports Complex.
Former champions TLDM became the first team to book a spot in the semi-finals of the FA Cup. They comfortably beat Division One side Iman-PJH 2-0 in a quarter-final tie played at Meru.
