Parliament open day draws 13,000

The doors of the Malaysian Parliament were opened to the public for two days, allowing thousands to tour the institution where the country’s laws are debated and passed.

Parliament Malaysia Open Day 2026 gave visitors a chance to explore key areas of the complex in Kuala Lumpur, including the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara, without an appointment.

Inside the Dewan Rakyat, visitors walked between rows of seats normally reserved for MPs and learned about the chamber’s layout and operations.

During the open day, visitors are allowed to take photographs in Dewan Rakyat.

Unlike regular sittings, visitors were permitted to take photos and record videos throughout the hall.

Elsewhere in the complex, galleries and displays offered insights into Parliament’s history, traditions and ceremonial practices.

Themed “Merakyatkan Parlimen: Reformasi Institusi Perundangan Malaysia” (Making Parliament People-Centred: Reform of Malaysia’s Legislative Institutions), the event marked Parliament’s 67th anniversary.

It drew 13,368 visitors over the two days.

Several activities were held alongside the tour, including government exhibitions, public service counters, health programmes, cultural performances and recreational events.

Visitors view a photographic display documenting official events and visits that have taken place at the complex.

Ahead of the event, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul said the aim of the open day was to allow people to experience Parliament first-hand rather than from a distance.
