PETALING Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will continue issuing printed assessment bills for now while encouraging ratepayers to switch to digital services.
Petaling Jaya mayor Datuk Mohamad Zahri Samingon said printed bills serve as a useful reminder for property owners to settle their assessment tax.
“We are in a transition period. We want the public to go online to settle their assessment bills, and will gradually stop issuing printed versions.
“The public tends to forget they have bills to pay when they do not receive a printed bill,” he said during the city council’s full board meeting.
Councillor Tan Wei Kiat suggested that MBPJ send assessment tax reminders to property owners via WhatsApp, and Mohamad Zahri said this was being mulled.
Ratepayers are encouraged to settle their assessment tax by Aug 31 to avoid late payment charges.
MBPJ has recorded 293,208 property owners with outstanding assessment payments amounting to RM216,417,817.90.
Property owners may view and download copies of their assessment bills through the MBPJ eCukai system at ecukai.mbpj.gov.my/mbpjesalinanbil while payments can be made online via ePay@MBPJ at epay.mbpj.gov.my/
To facilitate payments, MBPJ has various payment channels.
These include MBPJ payment counters, Selangor Land and District Office, selected post offices, MBPJ payment kiosks, online banking and digital payment platforms such as PBTPay, CEPat and Pos Online.
On a separate matter, the public can now submit complaints via WhatsApp at 03-7954 2020.
The service has been available since July 10.
