Zabidah Safar is Shah Alam's first woman mayor

SHAH Alam has made history with the appointment of its first woman mayor.

Datuk Zabidah Safar officially reported for duty on Thursday (Feb 19) as the city's 13th mayor.

She takes over from Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim, who was promoted to head the Department of the Director-General of Lands and Mines (Federal) under the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry.

Her appointment also means that the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) is now led by two women, as Safriah Md Adzhar was appointed deputy mayor in August.

Zabidah has held several prominent government positions, most recently serving as Penang’s state finance officer.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at 9.30am on Friday (Feb 20) at Wisma MBSA.
