Johor appoints first female mayor

a major reshuffle in Johor government – including the appointment of its first female mayor – follows the retirement and promotion of several civil servants.

Leading the list is former Perbadanan Usahawan Johor Sdn Bhd (PUJB) executive director Mohd Radzi Mohd Amin being appointed Johor Islamic Religious Council chief executive officer (CEO).

Former Southeast Johor Development Authority (Kejora) general manager Datin Paduka Hazlina Jalil has been appointed Pasir Gudang mayor, replacing Datuk Mustaffa Kamal Shamsudin who has been moved to Kolej Universiti Islam Johor Sultan Ibrahim as managing director.

When contacted, Johor State Secretary Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman confirmed that Hazlina was the state’s first female mayor.

“A total of 40 Johor Civil Service (JCS) officers are involved in this reshuffle exercise, effective Oct 16. The previous one involving 26 JCS officers was done last month,” he added.

Former Johor Public Transport Corporation (PAJ) CEO Shafiei Ahamad has been appointed Johor Heal Centre manager under the state secretary’s office.

There is also a direct swap between former YPJ Holdings Sdn Bhd (property development) general manager Nor Azleena Abdul Rahman and former Yayasan Pelajaran Johor general manager Suhairi Hashim.

Former Institut Dato’ Onn director Mohd Gadaffie Abd Aziz has been appointed Kejora general manager and Ungku Suzana Ungku Mohammad has been appointed the new Tangkak district officer.

At least five new faces have been appointed local council presidents as part of the reshuffling exercise, including Mohd Nazid Jasiman for Batu Pahat, Abdul Karim Bakar (Mersing), Mohd Norman Noh (Yong Peng), Shamsul Ariff Sulaiman (Tangkak) and Mohd Izzul Helmi Ahmad (Simpang Renggam).

Besides Mohd Radzi, at least three others have been made CEOs of government-linked companies, bodies or corporations, including Mohd Radif Kosnin (PUJB), Mohd Shahrin Rahmat (Johor Economic, Tourism and Cultural Office, Singapore) and Mohd Fa’iz Salehon (PAJ).
