FORMER Public Works Department (JKR) corporate and strategic management director Datuk Masri Baharuddin has been appointed the new Seremban mayor, says Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

The Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar said Masri's appointment takes effect Friday (Aug 8).

"The state exco has agreed on his appointment as Seremban City Council mayor after getting the necessary approvals from the related federal agencies and departments.

"A local from Rembau, he has more than 30 years' experience in the civil engineering sector and strategic management at JKR," he said in a statement.

Aminuddin said Masri, who had previously served as state JKR director from 2019 to 2020, obtained a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and was also an adjunct professor at Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia.

He successfully executed several projects while with JKR and received excellent service awards on three occasions.

"We are confident that he will bring fresh ideas based on strategic engineering, smart technology and efficient governance to empower Seremban towards becoming a smart, sustainable and inclusive city," he said.

Aminuddin also thanked former mayor Datuk Masri Razali for serving the city in that role since July 2021.

He was appointed state financial officer in May.
