A COUPLE of longhouses in Dudong area of Sibu, Sarawak, have received Gawai “gifts”.

Housing loan applications to renovate and build new longhouses have been approved by Sarawak Housing Development Corporation (HDC).

“The longhouses are Rumah Lenyam Jelum in Batu Wong, Assan Bayu and Rumah Monica Giri Jamban in Sungai Spauk, Jalan Stabau.

“Rumah Lenyam, which has 20 units, was approved for a loan of RM1mil while Rumah Monica was approved for a RM570,000 loan,” said Dudong Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) chairman Wong Ching.

He said this to reporters during the Dudong SUPP Mobile Service2u launch in Sibu Jaya.

He said the two longhouses were among 20 in Dudong that he had helped to obtain housing loans worth RM10mil since 2020.

Wong, who is also Sibu Rural District Council deputy chairman, expressed appreciation to Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian and the HDC for accepting the longhouse residents’ application.

He said SUPP’s Dudong and Sibu Jaya branches had invited 200 tuai tumah (longhouse chiefs) to listen to a briefing on the housing loan.
