A PEDESTRIAN bridge connecting the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link to Coronation Square in Johor Baru will be built to provide commuters with seamless access.
Coronade Properties Sdn Bhd (CPSB) corporate relations director Datin Paduka Alinah Ahmad said the walkway was scheduled to open at the end of 2026.
“Connectivity to RTS Link station in Bukit Chagar is a key feature of the Coronation Square development.
“It will take about five minutes to reach the train terminal using the 210m overhead pedestrian walkway,” she said.
She added that the cost of the bridge construction would be borne by CPSB following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Malaysia Rapid Transit System Sdn Bhd.
In total, the fully integrated Coronation Square development would have 4,500 parking bays, with 700 exclusively reserved for RTS Link users.
Coronation Square, with six signature tower blocks, will offer residences, serviced apartments, hotels, financial tower, healthcare services and a mall when fully open.
The RM5bil development, launched in 2015, is flanked by Jalan Wong Ah Fook and Jalan Trus.
The development is the centrepiece of the Ibrahim International Business District.
At a media briefing about the RTS Link project, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said 70.45% of the infrastructure construction had been completed as of March 31.
He said the progress had exceeded its initial schedule of 67.06%.
The link’s Immigration, Customs and Quarantine (ICQ) Complex superstructure is 7.02% completed, also ahead of its originally schedule that anticipated 6.99%, he further noted.
Installation of the rail service’s operating system, he added, was expected to begin at the end of the year.
Loke said public transport facilities, including RTS Link, were part of the government’s efforts to boost the socio-economic development of Greater Johor Baru, along with the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone.
“The Federal Government has made more than RM200mil in committed investments, focusing on public transport infrastructure to overcome the high traffic volume in downtown Johor Baru especially once the RTS Link begins operating,” he said.
The investments include efforts to improve the integrated traffic system for main roads such as Jalan Tebrau and Jalan Tun Abdul Razak to allow smoother travel to the RTS Link’s Bukit Chagar ICQ Complex.
Loke added that Mass Rapid Transit Corporation, project owner of the Malaysian portion of RTS Link, was building a multi-level park-and-ride facility at Bukit Chagar to provide 1,000 parking spaces for train users.
The train service will have a capacity of 10,000 passengers per hour per direction, with the end-to-end journey taking six minutes.
