Sarawak Central Region Single Mothers Association (Pitwits) is keeping its fingers crossed it will soon have its own building in Sibu.

Pitwits has been using the old and slightly rundown Public Works Department (JKR) building in Jalan Upper Lanang as its headquarters.

It has also been spending on the building’s maintenance and is keen for its own place.

According to Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng, the association had identified a piece of land for this purpose and was awaiting approval from Land and Survey Department.

Chieng has written to the department, in support of the association’s cause, to help it establish its own premises.

“Hopefully (if approved), Pitwits will be able to self-sustain and generate more income for its activities.

“I also urge all single parents and single mothers to join such associations.

“By joining, they enjoy better bargaining power and can appeal to government for help more easily,” he said after handing out food baskets to 57 Pitwits members. — By ANDY CHUA
