Cherry blossoms and peonies have bloomed inside buildings across the Klang Valley and there seems to be an explosion of red as shopping complexes redouble their efforts in creating an auspicious ambience for the upcoming Chinese New Year. StarMetro brings you a glimpse of what is in store.

SPRING is in the air at MyTown, which is decorated with peonies and cherry blossoms to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit.

At the Cheras mall’s Central Town area, 6m-high “towers” of red lanterns are visually captivating while the Town Park segment hosts the 12 Chinese zodiac animals that are great for Instagram shots.

Shoppers can pick up their lunar new year purchases at the “Flower Market” which features luxury hampers, women’s handbags, children’s outfits, stylish K-Pop (Korean pop) accessories and snacks.

Feast your eyes on the Kuala Lumpur mall’s magnificent decor with a huge cherry blossom tree that evokes oriental grandeur.

Renowned fashion designer Carven Ong’s interpretations of the traditional cheongsam are on display at the ground atrium.

They can also take photos with colourful lions, surrounded by lanterns and lush floral displays until Feb 15.

An exuberant, gravity-defying acrobatic lion dance performance will take place every weekend at 2pm.

Drum performances will be held every Sunday at 2.30pm to generate adrenaline-inducing excitement with rhythmic thumping of drums and clashing of cymbals.

IPC Shopping Centre

The Petaling Jaya mall kicks off its lunar new year celebrations by transforming its winter-themed Christmas decorations to one that evokes the impressions of spring.

Until Feb 5, visitors can enjoy activities such as sustainability-driven children’s workshops for Sma Club members, lion dance performances and meeting the God of Prosperity and Sma Club Buddies’ mascots.

The Petaling Jaya mall’s concourse resembles Shanghai’s streets during the French Concession era, giving it an elegant ambience.
