THE water disruption affecting some 472 areas in Selangor and Putrajaya on Christmas Eve is due to perfume essence being dumped into the river, says Subang Jaya assemblyman Michelle Ng.
"The pollution this time took place in Negeri Sembilan. Perfume essence was dumped into the river. It is one of the most difficult smells to (get) rid of," she said in a social media post.
"AC (activated carbon) bags have been deployed and the Semenyih Dam has been releasing water to dilute the smell.
"As at 10am, the ton (threshold odour number) recorded is as follows: 1 ton at Sungai Limau Manis, 1 ton 1.5km from Sungai Semenyih intake and 4 ton at Sungai Semenyih intake point.
"The smell shows to be gradually reducing closer to intake; it is therefore a matter of time before 0 ton is recorded," said Ng.

Ng later posted an update that the public water filling station has been moved to USJ3A to reduce additional travel time by Air Selangor water tankers.
"My team and I will be on the ground to work alongside Air Selangor with water distribution efforts," she added.
Air Selangor had earlier announced that the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and Bukit Tampoi Water Treatment Plant (WTP) were temporarily shut down following an odour pollution incident at Jenderam Hilir Raw Water Pump Station.
A total of 472 areas in five regions are expected to experience unscheduled water supply disruptions starting 7am on Saturday (Dec 24), namely Petaling (172 areas), Hulu Langat (54 areas), Sepang (196 areas), Putrajaya (23 areas) and Kuala Langat (27 areas).
