TO CELEBRATE the 65th National Day, Petaling Jaya MCA and Section 14A Residents Association are jointly organising two fun programmes.

The Kempen Kibar Jalur Gemilang (Fly the Flag Campaign) and Kempen Berkebun di Rumah 2022 (Home Gardening Campaign) are open to Petaling Jaya residents, especially those in Jalan 14A and 14B.

Both campaigns will be held at the Section 14A community hall, Jalan 14/26, Bangunan KRT 14A in Petaling Jaya.

A total of 100 residents are expected to join but there is no limit on the number of participants.

For the first campaign, participants will receive as many free national flags as they want for them to decorate the exterior of their houses.

Judges will choose the three best-decorated houses with the winner receiving RM500, the first runner-up RM300 and the second runner-up RM200.

This campaign will end on Sept 16 which is Malaysia Day.

Meanwhile, Rukun Tetangga Section 14A chairman Eldrick Tan said the home gardening campaign was in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s aim for a greener Malaysia.

“We plan to plant vegetables for our own consumption,” said Tan.

Four types of vegetable seeds are provided free — okra, pak choi (a type of Chinese cabbage), long beans and kai lan (Chinese broccoli).

Participants can plant all four types of seeds or other vegetables of their own choice as well.

Judges will choose the winners based on how well the vegetables are growing.

The top three will receive RM300, RM200 and RM100 respectively. The campaign will run for about three months from registration.

To register for the two campaigns, Petaling Jaya residents can collect copies of the form from Rukun Tetangga 14/26.

All participants must state their house address as judges may pay a visit to check on their vegetables and flag decorations.

Those joining the gardening campaign are also required to take pictures showing the growth of their vegetables, scan the QR code provided in the forms and email them to rukuntetangga14a@gmail.com

Photos of the home gardens can also be shared on social media under the hashtag #MCA and #KRTSECTION14

“We thank MCA for sponsoring the flags, vegetable seeds and prize money,” said Tan.

On Aug 30, there will be an Independence Day countdown from 9pm to midnight at the same venue where registration will take place.

Food and drinks will be provided for everyone who attends the countdown.
