Sungai Puyu opens second recycling station

A RECYCLING station has been set up in the Village Community Management Council (MPKK) area of Taman Lucky, Butterworth, the second in Sungai Puyu state constituency this year under the Penang Trash-Free programme.

State environment committee chairman Phee Boon Poh said the programme initiated by the state government and Penang Green Council (PGC) aimed at promoting segregation at source.

“We want to encourage local communities to segregate their waste in a proper manner, in line with the Waste Segregation at Source policy.

“Hopefully, this will also help to create a caring and environmental-conscious community in every neighbourhood.

“This programme is also in line with Phase Two of the Penang2030 – Accelerating Penang2030 under Community-building Initiatives,” added Phee.

The first recycling station in the constituency was set up in the MPKK area of Thamby Kecik in March this year.

“We need the community to come together to uphold the #kitajagakita spirit. We are doing this not only for ourselves but also for our children. We do not want to leave behind a world beyond repair for them.”

Also present were Seberang Prai City councillor Tan Chee Teong, Taman Lucky MPKK chairman Lim Choon Sun and Penang Zero Waste Community chairman Lim Chee Keong.
