The Star cameramen clinch three out of 11 awards

TWO photographers from Star Media Group Berhad made the daily proud by bagging honours at the 17th Tan Sri Lim Gait Tong Journalism Award 2020 organised by the Penang Press Club.

It was double the joy for Chan Boon Kai, 39, during the ceremony when he received an Excellent Award for the Datuk Pang Yun Tiam Supplement Editing Award category and a Commendation Award for the Datuk Seri Chew Cheong Kang Photography Award category.

Lim Beng Tatt, 40, received a Commendation Award for the Datuk Pang Yun Tiam Supplement Editing Award category.

Chan won the awards for his entries titled ‘The Sea Also Rises’ and ‘Our Hero Firefighters’, while Lim won the award for his work titled ‘Parched Earth’.

Both Chan and Lim said they were proud of their achievement, adding that the accolades would encourage them to do better in their career in the journalism industry.

Penang Press Club president Tan Hu Chuan said the annual event was postponed last year due to the pandemic.

“The event was supposedly held last year but due to pandemic and several movement control orders, we had to postpone it,” he said, adding that the ceremony this year was held at Cititel Hotel on Monday to honour the excellent work of newsmen in Penang.

Tan said 11 awards were up for grabs in this year’s competition which was participated by various media agencies across the state.
