New insurance plan covers children with learning disabilities

ISLAMIC Insurance company FWD Takaful Bhd has introduced FWD SpecialCare Direct, a unique online takaful plan designed to cover children with learning disabilities associated with autism spectrum disorder, Tourette syndrome and attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.

The regular contribution plan will also provide coverage for their parent or legal guardian.

“Any parent will want the comfort of knowing that their children’s future is secure, ” said FWD Takaful chief executive officer Salim Majid Zain.

“FWD SpecialCare Direct is a first-of-its-kind coverage that allows parents and legal guardian to ensure that financial safety nets are available for their children when they are no longer there or able to fully care for them.

“We are proud to be supporting different segments of the community, especially those traditionally uncovered, with dedicated takaful plans via our digital channel, staying true to our vision to change the way people feel about takaful.”

This plan requires no underwriting and guarantees acceptance for both the child and the parent or legal guardian.

There is no coverage waiting period for the child and a one-year waiting period is applicable for the parent or legal guardian.

FWD Takaful chief strategy and digital distribution officer Wan Ahmad Najib Wan Ahmad Lotfi said, “At FWD Takaful, we want to empower and be inclusive to all segments as much as we possibly can.

“Typically, children diagnosed with learning disabilities face challenges in getting protection plans.

“Therefore, we are creating this opportunity by giving them easy access to an affordable online protection plan which provides meaningful benefits for both child and parent or the legal guardian.”

The plan is offered to children with learning disabilities aged four to 20, with their parent or legal guardian aged 17 to 55.

The coverage expires once the child reaches 25 years of age or the parent or legal guardian reaches 75 years of age, whichever is earlier.
