Give a gift of hope this Christmas

THIS Christmas season, World Vision Malaysia is inviting the public to give a gift of hope to children and families living in poverty.

They can do so through World Vision Malaysia’s Gifts of Hope catalogue, which offers a variety of practical gifts for a child, family or community in dire need.

The gifts are selected in collaboration with the identified communities according to their needs.

They include school essentials, livelihood opportunities, access to clean water, healthcare as well as child protection services.

Studies have shown that the single most effective measure against Covid-19 is washing hands with clean water and soap.

However, according to Unicef, 40% of the world’s population does not have access to clean water and soap.

“Clean water, proper sanitation and good hygiene are essential for a child’s survival and development, ” said World Vision Malaysia chief executive officer Daniel Boey.

“With the Covid-19 pandemic, the need for clean water and good hygiene becomes more urgent not just for children, but adults as well.

“Through World Vision Malay-sia’s Gifts of Hope catalogue, we can give those in need practical Christmas gifts that will enrich and empower their communities.

“2020 has been most challenging but we can still share the spirit of hope and joy with a thoughtful gift, ” he added.

In addition to clean water and hygiene kits, other life-changing gifts include school bags, school shoes, chickens, cows, toilets and medical equipment with the cost ranging from RM50 to RM2,200.

The gifts can be purchased in honour of a loved one.

Donors can send a complimentary e-card describing the gift they have bought on behalf of their loved ones.

World Vision is also organising its inaugural Hope e-festival on Nov 28, featuring online workshops, carolling sessions and other activities.
