Sunrise, sunset, swiftly fly the years

This is where Penang’s first and oldest McDonald’s restaurant used to operate — Sunrise Tower at Gurney Drive.

The restaurant opened in 1988 and was a popular hangout before closing in 2016.

The black-and-white photo taken in 1984 shows the place used to be Sunrise Supermart, which was a magnet for shoppers before the rise of malls in the state.
