PUTRAJAYA will be buzzing with events and activities throughout the year to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

The highlight will be the unveiling of a time capsule on Aug 29, containing a number of official documents on the history and development of the administrative capital, put in by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad during his tenure as the fourth prime minister at Putrajaya Landmark.

The time capsule was put into a purpose-built structure at Taman Putra Perdana, Precinct 1 on Aug 29,1995, to commemorate the ground breaking of Putrajaya.

The administrative capital’s silver jubilee celebration will kick off with a poetry recital competition this month.

The busiest month will be August as Putrajaya Corporation (PjC) has lined-up several back-to-back events.

There will be a silver jubilee picnic, run, cycling, yasin recital and concert, among others.

All events are said to lead up to the National Day celebrations, tipped to be held in Putrajaya for the second consecutive year.

PjC president Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim said Malaysians can look forward to an eventful year in Putrajaya.

“We are constantly pushing for vibrancy in Putrajaya and one of the ways is to have events and activities suitable for the population that is predominantly made up of civil servants.

“Events organised by PjC are always free and family-oriented, ” he said, adding that some of the events would be held at night.

Annual events such as Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta, Royal Floria Putrajaya, Putrajaya Water Sport Festival, Putrajaya Boat Race, Putrajaya Bird Race, and Light and Motion Putrajaya will continue. — By VIJENTHI NAIR
