WHEN it comes to holidays and travelling, finding suitable and affordable accommodation is often a headache, especially when visiting a particular country for the first time.

To help travellers in easing the process of hunting for accommodation, SGI Vacation Club Berhad (SGI VC) is offering a week-based vacation club programme and services.

SGI VC, which debuted in 2001 and underwent a corporate restructuring in 2015, has become a part of the hospitality arm of OSK Group, and it is one of the leading vacation clubs in Malaysia with over 10,000 members and two coveted BrandLaureate SMEs awards to its name – the BestBrands Award 2013 for Corporate Branding and the BrandLaureate SMEs Signature award in 2015.

SGI VC members have the option to stay in the vacation club’s owned properties and over 3,000 quality hotels and resorts around the world with the company’s global exchange partner, Interval International. At the end of 2018, SGI VC replaced its initial 30-years programme and launched a new, more affordable programme with a shorter term of 15 years’ membership.

Vacation club membership is a unique type of holiday ownership in which the purchaser receives the right to the exclusive use of quality holiday accommodation for a number of stipulated days each year for a specific period of years depending on membership types. Members only need to pay a one-time membership fee plus an annual maintenance fee.

“The cost of hotel accommodation can add up rapidly with regular vacationing especially over the course of a lifetime. By becoming an SGI VC member, you are entitled to stay in quality accommodation for a minimum of seven or 14 nights yearly in the next 15 years depending on the type of membership purchased.

“In brief, members will enjoy free accommodation stay for 15 years in any SGI VC-owned properties and the choice of over 3,000 quality resorts worldwide with our affiliate partner, Interval International,” said SGI VC chief executive officer Ivan Ting.

SGI VC membership allows members to enjoy quality accommodation at just a fraction of what it normally costs throughout the next 15 years. Members are securing today’s discounted accommodation prices for future vacations without having to worry about hotel inflation rates over the next 15 years.

Also, when travelling overseas, members are able to hedge against higher currency exchanges when staying at hotels/resorts, as members will not have to pay for its quality accommodation through the Interval International affiliation.

Many members are satisfied with their membership. “I am very happy to be a SGI VC member because vacation club membership is expensive overseas compared to Malaysia. Here, it is considerably affordable because we get accommodation to stay in that is not expensive. You just need to top up with an exchange fee, which is also inexpensive. By being an SGI VC member, you can really save on accommodation and the savings can be spent on other things during your travel,” enthused Low Siew Gee, a member since 2002.

Current SGI VC Liaison Committee chairman Yike Chee Wah said: “The resort we stayed in is big and spacious. It is near the MRT station and good value for us. The hotel itself charges RM450 per night (with relations to the regular accommodation booking methods), so this exchange is worthwhile. Being an SGI VC member has benefitted me as the club provides good value and exchange resorts with Interval International. They have a variety of resorts worldwide and you just need to pay exchange fees and stay for free. You can never get this deal anywhere else and it’s really worth it.”

Both owned properties – SGI Vacation Club at Damai Laut Holiday Resort and SGI Vacation Club Villas at Damai Laut Holiday Resort, which are located between Damai Laut and Golf and Country Club and Swiss-Garden Beach Resort Damai Laut – are easily accessible from the North-South Expressway linking cities from the northern peninsula to Singapore, followed by a scenic countryside drive.

It offers a getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city across a range of accommodation types including studio, one-bedroom apartments, two-bedroom apartments and villas complete with facilities to meet holiday needs.

SGI Vacation Club Melaka is a new location in the recently-launched programme boasting a contemporary boutique hotel experience for members. Set in the heart of the historical city of Melaka, one of Malaysia’s Unesco World Heritage sites and a prominent tourist hub, it is strategically situated close to all major attractions.

With the offerings of the scenic Damai Laut and historic Melaka, SGI Vacation Club balances the equation with another property that defines modern living through its contemporary blend of design, making it a prime address located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle – Swiss-Garden Residences Bukit Bintang Kuala Lumpur which is located just a few minutes’ walk away from the city’s major shopping centres in Jalan Bukit Bintang, including Pavilion, Berjaya Times Square, Sungei Wang Plaza, Low Yat Plaza and entertainment hubs and famous street food along Bintang Walk and Jalan Alor.

SGI Vacation Club has always set a high standard for vacation ownership in the Asia-Pacific Region and is a member of American Resort Development Association (ARDA) and Asia Pacific Resort Development Organisation (APRDO).

The vacation club industry was legislated under the Interest Schemes Act 2016 and appropriate policy guidelines have been issued by the Companies Commission of Malaysia to regulate the industry.

SGI VC is also a member of the Malaysian Holiday Timeshare Developer’s Federation (MHTDF).
