Only dark jackets, please

SELANGOR Speaker Ng Suee Lim has ruled for all state assemblymen to attend the state assembly in dark-coloured jackets.

He cited Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Elizabeth Wong for wearing a white blazer.

When it was pointed out that invitation letters to the state assemblymen stated that men wear dark-coloured suits and colour preference for women was not stated, Ng said under the Standing Order, the Speaker had the last word on such matters.

“It doesn’t matter what (colour) you wear underneath the blazer, but the blazer must be dark-coloured.

“It is important to uphold the dignity and image of the Selangor State Assembly.

“I’m not against any particular person, the rule applies to everyone, including those in the Selangor backbenchers club,” he said.

Ng also reminded assemblymen to turn off their phones or put them on silent mode, in reference to Sungai Panjang assemblyman Datuk Mohd Imran Tamrin whose phone rang during the meeting.

Ng may be known for his humour, but he is also a stickler for rules.

During the last sitting, Ng commented on Mohd Sany Hamzan’s (PH-Taman Templer) attire of a dusty pink baju Melayu paired with songkok and green sampin.

He advised Mohd Sany to come dressed in a lounge suit.
