A need for new talents to develop creative industry

PENANG must hold more art events for its creative industry to flourish, says state Tourism Development, Heritage, Culture and Arts Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin.

He said the state also needed new talents to ensure a progressive development of the arts.

“The arts has been the core and linking bridge of many cultures.

“Thus, the state encourages more of such events to further develop our creative industry,” he said at the recent The Art Showdown exhibiton at China House in George Town.

Yeoh said the arts promoted freedom of expression and also provided aid to people in many areas.

“I hope every young artist can come together to develop the art industry in Penang, and make Penang a premier hub for tourism, arts, culture and heritage in the region,” said Yeoh in his opening speech.

Also present was Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen.

The Art Showdown exhibition, which features 95 paintings by 40 artists, is ongoing till Feb 15 at China House in George Town.
