‘Form panel to keep inventory of trees’

SEVERAL Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) councillors have proposed that a committee be set up to determine the inventory of trees under the council’s jurisdiction.

Councillor R. Moganraj said this would make it easier when complaints regarding trees were brought to the council.

“Instead of simply chopping them down because of these complaints, we should try to preserve and protect them.

“If the trees are determined to be

causing a ‘disturbance’, then it should be relocated and not cut down,” he said during the council’s full board meeting yesterday.

Councillor Suzana Saharudin echoed

this sentiment, but stressed that this

should not take precedence over residents’ safety.

“This (inventory) would be a proactive step for the council to take,” she said.

Council president Abdul Hamid Hussain said they matter would be looked into.

Updating on the dengue situation,

Abdul Hamid said there had been a

50% reduction in the number of cases reported compared to the same period

last year.

There were 2,367 dengue cases reported in the council’s jurisdiction with three deaths this year.

“Although there has been a reduction in the number of cases, we should not be complacent and continue to monitor and clean our surroundings,” he said.

Abdul Hamid hoped that the Dengue Action Committee (MTD), chaired by each councillor, would help mobilise residents to prevent the spread of the disease.

There are four hotspots at Taman Cahaya (Jalan Cahaya 13 -15), Taman Dagang (Jalan Dagang 2/1 - 2/7), Jalan Jelatek (Sri Maha Condominium ) and Taman Keramat (Apartment Bukit Baru).

Measures to control the spread include search-and-destroy of breeding grounds, outdoor residual spray as well as the Zero Larvae Operation.
