In an effort to reduce rat infestation in commercial areas, the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKJ) will reward the public RM3 for every rat caught until Nov 26.
Kajang assemblyman Hee Loy Sian said that the rats must be captured in Bandar Mahkota Cheras and be brought to the MPKJ branch on Jalan Reko to collect the reward.
The seven-day initiative started on Nov 19.
According to Hee, MPKJ has been receiving many complaints from both residents and business traders on the increasing number of rats in the area.
Irresponsible business traders throwing garbage into drains have attracted the rodents into the area.
Hee also expressed concern over the sale of fake "Gred A cleanliness certificates" by a syndicate for RM500 each.
"There have been 15 to 20 cases of restaurant owners displaying fake cleanliness certificates in their premises since last year.
"We are still in the midst of identifying the culprit behind the syndicate. However, the case will be under the police's jurisdiction, not MPKJ's.
"We will only be compounding restaurant owners if cleanliness levels are not up to the required standards and will issue a new certificate for the premises accordingly," he said, adding that some restaurant owners had been conned by people masquerading as MPKJ officers.
He reminded restaurant owners that original cleanliness certificates are free and can only be issued by MPKJ.
