KUANTAN: The Fire and Rescue Department (FRD) is setting up an auxiliary team on Gunung Tahan to facilitate search and rescue efforts on the mountain, which is the highest in peninsular Malaysia.

Its director-general Datuk Mohammad Hamdan Wahid said the team comprising mountain guides would be stationed at the exit to Gunung Tahan, namely Merapoh and Kuala Tahan.

“They will be given allowance and provided basic firemen training,” he said after attending a programme with retired fire personnel here.

He said Gunung Tahan mountain guides who were keen to be in the team can register with the Pahang Fire and Rescue Department.

Also present at the event were Pahang Fire and Rescue director Noor Hisham Mohammad and his deputy Mohd Sani Harul. — Bernama
