ABOUT 700 people gathered at Stadium Juara in Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, for some Zumba fun while contributing to a good cause.

The event titled “United We Dance” was organised by the Rotary Club of Bandar Sunway for its flagship “Leg for Legless” project that gives away free prosthetics to needy recipients.

Club president Asvika Maheswary said it was their first Zumba fitness fundraising event.

“We had previously organised a movie night to raise funds.

“This time, we decided to do something fun so that the public can donate for a good cause and benefit from it at the same time because Zumba will keep you healthy,” she said.

Rotary Club District Governor Dr Manohur Kurup echoed her sentiments that the event benefitted the needy as well as participants.

“Other than enjoying Zumba, those who attended the event also donated to the cause with the entrance fee they paid,” he added.

The money raised at the event went towards getting artificial limbs for two individuals while the third recipient will get a three-wheel motorcycle.

Esvaran Peviasamy, who will get the bike made specially for the disabled, was grateful for the donation.

Two years ago, he suffered from restriction of blood flow and was left with no choice but to have both legs amputated.

“I feel really happy and blessed to receive help from the Rotary Club of Bandar Sunway,” he said.

Also present were the event’s ambassadors, popular musician Datuk David Arumugam and local football legend Datuk Santokh Singh.

There was a lucky draw session with prizes, including tickets to South Korea and Bali.
