A RESIDENT in Pandan Indah, Ampang, was shocked to receive a water bill amounting to RM1,916.10 for the month of January.
Nor Hasnidah Bahari, 56, said her previous water bills were always below RM10.
“I have been staying there for more than 20 years and this is the first time I have experienced this.
“The hike in our water bill was unexpected as my son and I are working and there was no increase in water usage.
“We have also checked the water meters but no leak was found,” she said during a press conference called by Pandan MCA chief Datuk Leong Kok Wee.
She added that she had lodged a report with Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) on Jan 28.
Leong said he received more than 20 complaints regarding the unusually high water bill in the past two months.
“Most complaints are from Pandan Indah and Ampang residents.
“We will contact Syabas in these two months if the matter is not resolved,” he said.
Syabas customer relations and communication head Abdul Raof Ahmad acknowledged receiving several complaints of the issue from customers and was in the process of verifying the bills.
“In the meantime, we urge customers who have concerns on their water bills to call 15300, email their details including full name, account number and contact number to wecare@airselangor.com or WhatsApp a copy of water bill to 019-281 6793 or 019-280 0919,” he said.
Abdul Raof added that those waiting for their bills to be verified may defer payments for January and February as Syabas has put the water disconnection exercise on hold until end of this month.
