JOHOR BARU: The inaugural StarProperty.my Awards 2017: Jewels of Johor was a huge success and the award presentation ceremony is likely going to be a regular feature in Johor’s property calendar.
The event was organised following the success of the annual StarProperty.my Awards which is usually held in the Klang Valley.
The evening black-tie soiree held at Thistle Hotel Johor Baru was graced by Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.
About 300 guests attended the gala, with the ladies dressed in their evening gowns while the men in their spiffy dark suits.
Among the VIP guests were Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Housing and Local Government committee chairman Datuk Md Jais Sarday and Tourism, Domestic Trade and Consumerism committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong and state secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani.
Star Media Group Bhd was represented by chairman Datuk Fu Ah Kiow, group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai and Johor bureau chief Nelson Benjamin.
Wong said the Jewels of Johor awards programme was organised to acknowledge the need to diverge to other parts of Malaysia.
“There is a multitude of top-notch developments deserving recognition in Johor.
“Johor is a prime location as the next property hotspot and the influx of domestic and foreign investments will boost demand for properties,” he said.
The StarProperty.my Awards 2017: Jewels of Johor presented 11 award categories including two Special Mention Awards, which were presented to Iskandar Waterfront Holdings Sdn Bhd.
The judging panel consisted of captains of the Malaysian real estate industry and national leaders of various disciplines such as architecture, real estate investment trusts, geomancy sciences, landscape architecture, sustainable building, interior design, real estate-related services, business and real estate journalism.
One of the award recipients, Country Garden Pacificview Sdn Bhd (CGPV), bagged the Best Sustainable Development for its on-going multi-billion ringgit Forest City project in Gelang Patah.
CGPV executive director Datuk Md Othman Yusof said they have always emphasised on the quality of the projects, not only in terms of the building and infrastructure but in creating good ambiance and environment for its residents and occupants.
“This means having a good and well-planned landscape as well as making the project low carbon as much as possible,” he said, adding that another highlight of Forest City was the speed of development and that they could deliver ahead of the slated period each time.
Md Othman added that Forest City was looking forward to launching its golf course and international school – all currently in mid-construction – by the second or third quarter next year.
Forest City is a 1,386 hectare mixed development project, which includes a smart city on man-made islands along the Johor Straits.
AME Group managing director Kelvin Lee Chai said Ipark Development Sdn Bhd’s win in The Best Industrial Park Development category for its 189acre i-Park@Senai Airport City project was due to its clean and green management.
He said 85% of its customers were foreign companies, making it a significant endorsement of their industrial parks.
“We already have two matured industrial parks that are still in good condition, proving that we can do it well,” he said, adding that they plan to participate in such competitions in future and urged more developers to take part, too.
AME Develpment Sdn Bhd director Simon Lee said their resolution for the future was to continue ensuring fast delivery of products for their customers while observing 20% growth and acquiring more land bank.
Since 2011, AME Development has successfully launched and developed i-Park@SiLC and i-Park@Indahpura.
Tanjung Bintang Sdn Bhd walked away with the Excellence Award for the Best High-Rise Residential Development and the Best Sustainable Development for its Molek Pine 4.
The latter is a 37-storey high-rise apartment tower comprising 260 units of apartments ranging from 1,441 sq ft to 6,024 sq ft on six acres of freehold land amidst landscaped greenery.
“Molek Pine 4 units are customised for our Japanese clients who want to make Johor Baru their second home, as well as young families and businessmen,’’ said executive director Maggie Ng.
BCB Bhd won the Best Commercial Development award for its newly launched Versis Medini – a mixed development located on a 22 acres site in Medini, Iskandar Puteri.
The project cleverly infuses an optimal balance between residential and commercial offerings amidst a dynamic commercial environment with innovative features and elements.
“Versis is the first in Medini to introduce the vertical garden or ‘V’ concept in the high-rise portion of the development denoting dynamism and aggressiveness to enhance branding presence and identification,’’ said executive director Tan Lindy.
She commended StarProperty for having such an event here to showcase developers including those from Johor.
The developers honoured at the awards night included Eco World Development Group Bhd, Gamuda Land, Mah Sing Group Bhd, Greenland Danga Bay Sdn Bhd, Iskandar Waterfront Holdings, Exquisite Mode Sdn Bhd, Tanjung Bintang Sdn Bhd and UMLand.
