Star reporter receives ministry’s media award

THE Star reporter Jessie Lim Yu Min won third place in the Print Media and Online News Portal (News and Features) category with her report “Eye On Rural Development” at the Rural and Regional Development Ministry (KKLW) Media Awards 2017.

Three Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) reporters also won prizes at the event.

Winning first prize in the same category was Kurniawati Kamarudin with her report titled “Pulau Banggi Tidak Akan Terpinggir Lagi”. Sakini Mohd Said took second place with her report titled “Anyaman Buluh 'Salingkawang' Keunikan Kraf Sabah”.

Other categories contested were Electronic Media: Radio Broadcasting and Electronic Media: TV Broadcasting.

Rural and Regional Deleopment Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob presented the prizes.

In his speech, Ismail Sabri said the ministry would set a quota of five media practitioners to pursue post-graduate studies under the ministry's 2018 budget.

“It is a symbol of our appreciation for media practitioners who have always helped us in discharging our duties and serving the people,” he added.
