Aid flowing in for flood victims

SEVERAL non-governmental organisations have come forward to lend a helping hand for flood victims in Penang.

The Buddhist Missionary Society Malaysia is holding its donation drive until Sunday.

Its Penang branch chairman Datuk Tan Gin Soon said the collected funds would be disbursed to needy victims.

Those wishing to donate can bank in their contributions to Buddhist Missionary Society Malaysia’s Public Bank account (309-436-0931).

As part of Everest Integrated Logistics’ corporate social responsibility programme, the management is seeking donations in cash and kind.

Two collection centres have been set up in Penang and Kuala Lumpur.

Well-wishers in Penang can drop off their contributions like blankets, groceries and mineral water at 38, Jalan Iks, Taman Iks Bukit Tengah in Bukit Mertajam.

Those in Selangor can do the same at 5, Jalan SS 13/2, Subang Jaya.

Cash donations can be banked in to Everest Enterprise Maybank account (564146533520).

Meanwhile, the Temple of Fine Arts Penang’s healthcare arm, Derma Sivasanta Clinic, will be giving out free essential oil and body shampoo with medicinal values to flood victims.

Clinic coordinator P. Murugiah said the items could be collected from the clinic at 11, River Road in Sungai Pinang.

Besides that, some 300 packsof food, 500 bottles of mineral water and other necessities like soap and towels were delivered to the flood victims taking shelter at the Juru multipurpose hall on the mainland.

The contributions were courtesy of Nasi Kandar Khaleel and Penang-based Shan Poornam Group of Companies.

Joining the NGOs in offering aid is Penang Gerakan.

In a statement on Monday,Penang Gerakan acting Youth chief Jason Loo said the party had volunteers who donated food, drinking water, blankets and clothing.

He said those seeking assistance to clean their houses or flats could contact the Gerakan headquarters in Jalan Macalister at 04-2280228.
