In recognition of achievements

SOME 36 personalities from various fields were recognised for their contributions to society at the recently held McMillan Woods Global Awards 2015.

The second running of the event, organised by accounting and advisory company McMillan Woods, was held last week in Kuala Lumpur to honour entrepreneurs and personalities for their outstanding performance as well as to encourage them to strive further in their careers.

“This awards ceremony is not only important and prestigious, but also one that recognises the efforts and hardships of today’s recipients,

“Two roads diverge in a forest and I took the road less travelled and that made the difference, continue to be courageous to take the road less travelled if you want to succeed,” said guest of honour Tunku Datuk Mu’tamir Tunku Mohamed in his opening speech.

He also lauded McMillan Woods president Datuk Raymond Liew for his hard work over several months in putting the event together.

The evening started with dinner accompanied with performances by violinist Dennis Lau and local actress Chris Tong Bin Yu. Lau and Tong were also the recipients of the Icon in Contemporary Instrumental Music and Outstanding Female Artiste of the Year awards respectivley at the ceremony.

Radio deejay and actor Jack Lim, better known as Ah Beng, was crowned the Outstanding Male Artiste of the Year while local singer and Voice of China reality show contestant Melody Tan was named the Young Achiever Singer of the Year.

Lim also took the stage to perform a short skit and a Chinese number. This was followed by Tan’s powerful rendition of Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion’s song The Prayer.

Before the awards were presented, the organiser’s auctioned a sculpture which was snapped up by Datuk Seri Jacky Ker Cherk Yee for RM30,000.

The proceeds of the auction will be channeled to McMillian Woods’ charity projects.

Other personalities recognised at the event included Star Publications (M) Bhd group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai who received the Fearless Media Leader of the Year award.

Aquawalk Sdn Bhd managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Simon Foong was named the Corporate Leader of the Year, while Andaman Property Group managing director Datuk Seri Dr Vincent Tiew Soon Thung was named Corporate Champion of the Year.

Inland Revenue Board chief executive officer Tan Sri Wira Dr Mohd Shukor Mahfar was named Visionary Leader of the Year, while Secret Recipe chief executive officer Datuk Simon Sim took the award for Dynamic Personage of the Year.
